Everything this site knows about its visitors would fit inside a two-person tent with room left over for the torches. Here is all of it, plainly.
What arrives when you write to us
The porch-light form delivers exactly what you typed into it — a name, a reply address, a message. There is no other door through which personal information enters this site, and we never ask for more.
Counting readers, not identifying them
A visit counter may be switched on that tallies page views, rough regions and device types, as totals. It cannot tell us who you are, and a site about sleeping bags has no wish to find out.
What the information is for
Answering your message; noticing which nights get read so the next ones are better; keeping the site secure. Nothing is sold, rented, or handed to marketers by us. The advertising described below is placed by Google, and what it does is set out plainly so you can decide about it.
What the server writes down
Independently of the form and the counter, the hosting provider records standard access logs: IP address, browser string, the page requested and the time of the request. These are kept for security and for tracing errors, the provider decides how long, and nothing in them is matched against anything else.
Cookies
None from us directly; the counter, when running, may set its own, and the advertising below sets more. Your browser can refuse or delete them and every page works exactly the same.
The advertising on these pages
Ads here are served by Google. Google and its partners may store cookies or similar identifiers on your device to select and measure those ads, and in some places the selection draws on sites you visited earlier.
Two switches are yours. Personalised advertising can be turned off in Google's ad settings, and cookies can be blocked per site in your browser. Nothing on these pages depends on either.
The two helpers
FormSubmit ferries the messages; the measurement provider, when active, does the counting. Each works under its own privacy policy and receives only what its task needs.
How long things are kept
Messages: until answered, then up to twelve months in case you write back. Counter totals: whatever the provider's standard retention is.
